"I was seventeen when I was first introduced to the Waterworks on the Antrim Road in Belfast by my art teacher Eugene Gallagher. We painted together there in the early seventies and in 2016 I returned to rediscover this wonderful oasis and have had consistent contact with the Waterworks since then. The work in this exhibition has been inspired by the beauty of the Waterworks' open spaces, by my recent travels in Pontoise and around Provence and by artists living and working in France. In particular this work has been influenced by Pissarro's contre jour lighting and by Van Gogh's Arles paintings and drawings".
